Their Royal Highnesses Edward Grey of Lochleven & Marguerite ingen Lachlainn

TRH Edward Grey and Marguerite Ingen Lachlainn

We, Sir Edward Grey of Lochleven & Marguerite ingen Lachlainn, Prince and Princess of the East Kingdom, have picked Henry VII & early Henry VIII as the time period and theme for Our reign.

Culture:

Henry Tudor of the House of Lancaster, as Henry VII of England, is remembered as the King that ended the War of the Roses by winning a decisive victory at the Battle of Bosworth. Henry stepped up to the throne of a country bitterly divided, exhausted and bankrupt. In order to start the re-knitting of his wounded Kingdom, he married Elizabeth of York, daughter of King Edward IV. He maintained his rule by cunning statecraft, and winning battles. Known for his parsimonious nature, Henry amassed a fortune that later enabled his son and afterward his grand daughter Elizabeth I to rule in a glittering, golden age.

Mistress Rannveigr Haakonardottir

Rannveigr Haakonardottir died 26 Jan 2010. The cause of death was breast cancer. She was the first Pelican in the East inducted into the Order specifically for Chirurgeoning. She was a tireless and effective worker, leading her own team of medics, the notorious Old Broad Squad, each year during the Pensic Woods Battle. She was a sweet lady who was well loved within the Chirurgeonate and without. Mudanely, Rannveigr was a medical doctor who received an award for her work with blood during the AIDS Crisis. She was a fine physician, a good and dependable colleague, an able Master Chirurgeon, and a good friend. We will all miss her.

Lady Brithwen de Bores Hulla

Lady Brithwen de Bores Hulla, former chatelaine and seneschal of the Crown Province of Ostgardr, has passed away suddenly, of a pulmonary embolism. She was awarded her Silver Crescent at the first coronation of Konrad and Brenwen.

She was my mentor in the chatelaine’s office. I worked as her deputy for several years before stepping into her shoes as chatelaine for Ostgardr when she became the province’s seneschal. Though in the last couple of years she had stepped back to re-assess what she wanted to do, she was still in touch with many dear friends in the area.

If you knew her, please light a candle, and remember a wonderful woman who helped me discover the joys of helping and being an officer in the SCA.

We have established a fund c/o NERO Hartford on Paypal to raise
funds for her funeral expenses. The e-mail for donations is LuisaWalkerFund@nerohartford.com. Any size donation is welcome, even as small as $1.00. If you send it as cash through Paypal, we can
receive it without Paypal fees and the full amount will be available for use.

Any assistance is appreciated. Any funds that may be left would be
donated to charity in her name.

Lord Wilhelm Baumhecker

Sir Albrecht has sent Us a missive reporting: “After a long and valiant struggle, Lord Wilhelm Baumhecker has passed away. He was the beloved husband of Maestra Ana de Guzman. Willie was a gallant gentleman, courageous fighter, caring father, new grandfather, faithful squire, and good friend. He gave of himself, selflessly and constantly. His loss diminishes our group but it is incomparable to what his life and example brought to it. He will be missed.”

Our sympathies go out to Maestra Ana de Guzman and to all of the Shire of Rusted Woodlands.

Polling

Unto the Eastern Populace,

Thank you to all who have sent recommendations to Us.  We truly appreciate the voice of the Eastern populace and the deeds of these candidates.

We would like to remind all that We will begin Our first pollings on February 1.  This polling is required for all awards of High Merit (Order of Silver Crescent, Maunche, Tygers Combatant, Sagittarius and Golden Rapier) and Peerages (Chivalry, Laurel, Pelican) that We might award during the months of April, May and June, and it is not too early to bring up candidates for later in the summer, or for other awards.

Please realize that We will not be able to visit everyone whom We wish to as often as We would like.  Therefore, if Our Royal progress brings us near the Barony or Shire of a candidate whom you consider worthy of an award, most especially elevation to an order of High Merit or Peerage, We ask that you send us a recommendation by Birka.

We are also looking forward to meeting with the Companions of Our Orders at The Market Day at Birka.

Our second polling will begin on May 1st.
Pollings can be sent via email to: prince@eastkingdom.org and princess@eastkingdom.org

It fills Us with great pride to announce Our Crown Tournament which
will be held in the Barony of L’Ile du Dragon Dormant within the
Crowned Principality of Tir Mara on May 8th.

We invite all noble candidates to announce themselves and their
intentions to Us as We look forward to a grand day of chivalry and
pageantry upon the list field. As the greatest combatants of this
noble kingdom assemble to do deeds of honor for their consort, We ask
that they proudly display their arms upon their persons, that they may
be easily recognized by our populace.

It is also Our whim that all combatants provide their arms in
electronic format with their letter of intent to add to the pageantry
of the day.

We would also announce the format of the final rounds of Our
tournament. The crown shall be determined by victory in 3 out of 5
bouts. The bouts shall be: great sword, two weapon, war hammer,

Request for Award Recommendations

Greetings to the Populace of the East Kingdom, from Their Royal
Highnesses Edward and Marguerite.

We write to you this fair winter day, considering the many worthy
deeds of performed across this kingdom. Therefore, We would ask each
of you to consider those who have made this kingdom a better place by
their actions, and recommend those good gentles for the honors they
most deserve, that We, and our polling orders, might give due
consideration to those worthy of elevation during our upcoming reign.

A helpful award recommendation write up can be found on the East
Kingdom Wiki here: Recommending Someone For an Award

While We are accepting recommendations to both our polling and
non-polling orders, We have you know that our first pollings will
begin on Feb 1st and our second will commence on May 1st. Please
recognize that it takes the crown roughly 3 months to consider, and
prepare scrolls for, an elevation to an Order of High Merit or Peerage.

As Our schedule may not allow Us to visit all of you as often as We’d
like, please get us recommendations by Feb 1.

Award recommendations can be sent to via email to: prince@eastkingdom.org and
princess@eastkingdom.org

We would like to thank those who have already made recommendations to Us.

Wolfie

We were saddened yesterday to learn of the passing of one of the East Kingdom’s warriors. Wolfie was the beloved husband of Tasha and a member of House Tarragon. He was possessed of a talent for leather working, a wicked wit and many friends. The East Kingdom is poorer for his loss.
